LIBRO SYSTEM

Posted by Lovable Leona on September 11, 2008

Libro System an alternative library information system was developed by a Filipino Librarian, Mr. Romy Sebastian. The system is primarily designed for use by librarians, information specialists and record managers.  It has eight pre-defined databases and these are Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC); Periodical Articles; Articles from Books; Vertical Files; Special Materials or Multimedia; Filmography; Thesis and Dissertation Abstracts and Cases & Jurisprudence. It offers the most extensive set of modules, features and routines to automate library functions.   And these are the ff:

1. Marc Utilities – It can import Marc records from different library system or OPAC.

2. Digital Library – You can use the system to build digital resources or use it as storage.

3. Data Entry Module

4. Search Module – all fields are searchable, capable of Boolean logic approach and keyword searching and reveals the loan status of the books.

5. Circulation Module – simplified rountine check-in and check-out mode, it computes automatically overdue amounts and provides an easy verification of loan status of books and users.

6. Clientele loan verification – the clientele can very as to their loan status and outstanding account.

7. Acquisition Module – can view the acquisition of every department

8. Serials management

9. Reservation of AV-rooms and equipments

10. Inventory Module – can easily record the status of the books or other materials, can navigate the book database in this routine mode.

11. Reports Module

12. Utilities Module

13. User Statistics Module

14. Printing reports

As you can see it is comparable with foreign information systems both in performance and costs.  It is one of the most dynamic, comprehensive, and easy to use library information systems ever built to computerize and manage information centers, libraries, and data banks. And it offers adaptable online searching capabilities to help the clientele easily locate materials they need.  Library processes are simplified to facilitate efficient and effective library management to the extent most beneficial even to a one-man librarian.  The system can run in either standalone or network, and likewise, barcode-ready. Knowing the background of the system itself from the programmer, inspired me to do a library system that is more enhanced and will be based on the levels of thinking of the clients itself.
