Abstract of the article:

This article provides an introduction to Web 2.0 for libraries and have attempt to bring a few technologies that can help librarians and other educators to share information. Web 2.0 pushes for social collaboration. Participatory web, read/ write web, etc as they call it have introduce blog/ RSS, wikis and other social interactive software that ignites the interest of libraries and schools everywhere.

3 things I learned from my Reading Assignment

Web 2.0 is opening up even more opportunities for us to better engage our library users, essentially making communitcation and online work easier and more productive. Through this the following are attained:

  • Blogging with blogger, wherein you create an ongoing conversation among librarians with different perspectives.
  • Social bookmarking with Del.icio.us is famous for keeping up to date on topics of interest, trend spotting and connecting and sharing with others. Some libraries use it to store Web bibliographies and push them to library patrons.
  • Building wikis with PBWIKI.com have been used by librarians to allow visitors to easily add, remove or otherwise edit and change some available content.

Implications of the new things I learned to my work/ to me as a person:

Nowadays Web 2.0 have offered librarians ways to reach out their clients in the comfort of their homes. Knowing the technologies provided by Web 2.0 and today’s generation are more visual learners, it is a must to get used in using it. Being a librarian, we must be updated to things happening, we can only do this with the help of Web 2.0
